Reflex-Rol (UK) Installed projects portfolio
The projects shown below are just examples of the many across the United Kingom on which Reflex-Rol (UK) was asked to plan, design and install an effective solar shading and thermal protection solution. If you would like to have more information about the projects listed below or other projects installed with Reflex-Rol, please contact us on 01989 750704 to discuss or email info@reflex-rol.co.uk

  • Pfizer Pharmaceuticals European HQ - Sandwich, UK

Four new office blocks for Pfizer Pharmaceuticals were built with the latest anti-sun glass specification which, according to the glass manufacturer, required no additional shading protection. Within only a few months it became clear that additional shading was required. Reflex-Rol (UK) installed 600 solar shading units to provide the extra protection required.

Pfizer's buildings, and other of a similar construction, require enormous quantities of energy for heating and cooling. As Reflex-Rol eliminates 8.5 of every 10 Kw. of solar energy projected at a window, Pfizer are able to reduce their cooling loads substantially.

Acceptable solar glare is a subjective issue. E.U. guidelines on the degree of light intensity and reflection recommend that light reflection should not be <200 Cd/m2 or >400Cd/m2. Reflex-Rol units are designed to keep reflection within E.U guidelines

Despite using the highest specification anti-sun glass, glare and temperature were above acceptable levels. Reflex-Rol units brought working conditions within current EU Health and Safety directive recommended levels.

  • Irish Pavillion - Expo 2000, Hanover.

This 30m “glass box” was built as an extension to the Irish Pavilion at Expo 2000 in Hanover to function as a bar. It was constructed with the latest “anti-sun” glass which the manufacturer claimed needed no extra shading protection. When it was discovered that the temperature of the Guinness being served at the bar was above an acceptable temperature.

The Reflex-Rol units installed at the Irish Pavilion were fully motorised and the client full shading adjustment control. The degree of clarity in outward vision achieved, while optimising glare and heat reflection, is an ample demonstration of Reflex-Rol's G1915 high capacity reflectors effectiveness.

  • Compaq, Dublin, Eire.

The challenge set by Compaq was to shape and fit each separate window unit in a 20m X 20m pyramidal shaped glass dome with fully automatic Reflex-Rol solar glare control units.

  • Dublin Airport, Eire.

Dublin Airport houses Europe 's longest passenger 'travelator'. Excessive heat from solar gain had been causing the rubber hand-rail to expand by over 120mm in length resulting in the travelator grinding to a halt. The excellent solar reflective properties of the Reflex-Rol and contributed substantially to keeping passengers cool and the 'travelator' moving.

  • Commerzbank, Frankfurt, Germany.
  • Extreme solar shading solutions were required at Europe 's tallest office building in order to keep cooling loads within statutory levels. Reflex-Rol, together with other leading sunblind manufacturers were invited to tender for the contract to supply and fit a solar shading solution. Reflex-Rol was awarded the contract because no other manufacturer reflector film could match the thermal performance of Reflex-Rol's high capacity reflector foil.

  • Irish Pavillion - Expo 2000, Hanover.

The problem was solved when the organisers installed Reflex-Rol G1915 high capacity reflectors. Thereafter, the “heads” on every pint of Guinness served stayed up saving Ireland 's national pride.

  • Ikea National Distribution Centre, Doncaster, UK.

Despite selling decorative blinds themselves, when it came to their own offices Ikea chose the only 'blinds' to give proven solar and glare control, thereby attaining the working conditions required by the current EU Health and Safety Laws.

  • London Zoo - Web of Life Millennium Building, UK.

Top to bottom glass proved too much for the inhabitants without solar and glare control.  When it was noted that the Lepidoptera' enjoyment of the sun was limited, London Zoo's management had no butterflies of hesitation in ordering and installing Reflex-Rol.

  • The Guildhall, City of London, UK.

Designed with longevity and prestige in mind, Reflex-Rol system made a natural partner for The Guildhall's cast bronze window frames and natural stone facade.  Reflex-Rol's G1911 reflector foil was chosen specifically for its ability to shield and protect the City's art treasures from harmful UV light.
